How to become a Christian

God loves like a faithful spouse, an adoring parent, and an old friend. The trouble is we've cheated on our spouse, disobeyed our parent, and betrayed our friend. In addition to all these things, God is also the Judge of the universe. Every society, institution, and family has a system of crime and punishment. In the same way God has established a universal system of crime and punishment. Most people call this karma. Karma can’t help us though. As Gandhi said, "An eye for an eye leaves everybody blind." God was faced with a dilemma. Because justice must be served, our crimes against God's peaceful commands must be punished. The punishment for crimes against an infinitely good God must be an infinite punishment. However, God provided a way to escape this punishment which brings us to the good part.

God Himself came in the person of His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus solves God's dilemma because He is both God the one and only and He is also simultaneously fully human. Jesus was born of a virgin and lived a perfect life. He alone in all of history never once in thought, word, or action failed to perfectly obey God and love human beings. Then He was executed early in the first century C.E. just outside Jerusalem for claiming to be God. He also claimed to have entered into history from eternity to be punished in the place of sinners. From the eyes of heaven, Christ's death on the cross satisfied God's just anger against sin.

If you believe that Jesus is who He said He is and accept His death on the cross as the full payment for your sins, then you are given credit by God for Christ's perfect obedience and all your sins are forgiven forever. If you have some questions about any of this, please feel free to contact me by phone or email by using the contact link on the home page of this website.

Grace and Peace,

"We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.  And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.  For everyone has sinned.  We all fall short of God's glorious standard.  Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous.  He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty of our sins.  For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin.  People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood."  Romans 3:22-25 (NLT)
